Quran Prophecy: Abu Lahab Will Be Ruined
“May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he. His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained. He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame. And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood. Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. (Quran 111:1-5)
Who Was Abu Lahab?
This Surah was revealed to condemn the behavior of one of the relatives of the Prophet who stood against his message. Abu Lahab was the uncle of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. His name was Abdul Uzza bin Abdul Muttalib. He was called Abu Lahab because of the brightness of his face. The Arabic word “Lahab” means flames, and this was his nickname because he was of radiant reddish color. Abu Lahab and his wife were one of the most hostile opponents of Muhammad and the ideas he propagated.
The reason for cursing Abu Lahab is because Abu Lahab was
the only one in Muhammad’s close family that even though he belonged to the
same clan, he joined with the opposing Quraysh instead. Not only this when the
whole family of Prophet was under social boycott Abu Lahab was was with rival
tribes in signing the document imposing a complete social boycott on the clan
of Hashim to starve them out.
Surah Lahab Fulfilled Prophecies
In this Surah, it is foretold that Abu Lahab will be ruined,
perished and will burn in the fire. Hand Extinguishing the flameNow the miracle
is that Abu Lahab and his wife lived a long time after the revelation of this
Surah, and although the majority of Meccan’s converted to Islam they never
accepted Muhammad, his message and Quran. If they wanted they could accept the
message as some hypocrites did and could turn to Islam to prove Quran and this
particular revelation/Surah as wrong.
But this never happened and thus a miracle and fulfilled prophecy and
prediction of Quran.
