Surah Rum Mention Of Lowest Land: A Scientific Fact

Surah Rum Fulfilled Prophecies

Surah Rum beginning verses gives many facts and predictions which fulfilled in a time span of 10-12 years (Detail of this you can find in Quran Miracle: Prediction of Victory of Romans). First is that Romans will be back and defeat their opponent which fulfilled starting from 623 AD with the initial victories of Romans and ends with the final defeat of Persians in the battle of Nineveh in 627AD. The other thing in verse is that Muslims will be happy that day: it is fulfilled by the rejoicing of Muslims on seeing the Quran’s claim and prediction coming true and their opponent’s claims turning wrong. Fourth is “فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ” in the nearer land, which actually proved right as these events happened in the regions much nearer to the region of Arabia.

٢ غُلِبَتِ الرُّومُ

٣ فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ وَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ

٤ فِي بِضْعِ سِنِينَ ۗ لِلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ بَعْدُ ۚ وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

Alif, Lam, Meem.

The Romans have been defeated

in the lowest land; and they, after their defeat, will overcome.

within a few years. To Allah belonged the matter before and (to Him it belongs) thereafter. And on that day the believers will rejoice. (Quran 30:1-4)

Miracle In The Use Of Word “أَدْنَى”

In Arabic the literal meaning of أَدْنَى is low/ Lowest and can be near/ nearest. Early Commentators of Quran took it as “in the nearest region because that seems to them more appropriate to understand this verse. But now we know that the region where this war took place is actually the lowest region in the world. Byzantine and Persian Empires went to war and Byzantines suffered defeat when Damascus and Jerusalem both fell to the Persian Empire. This area is near Dead sea which is the lowest point on earth. At over 400 meters below sea level, it is the land area with the lowest elevation. [−430 m (−1,411 ft)], lowest land in Asia and the world 31°30′N 35°30′E.
