Why Quran is the word of Allah?

This question is like a stranger asking to you: How much your mom loves you?. Can you give exact answer for him? no. Because we can understand the love of our mothers only when we experience their love. We can not tell others how much it is. So if you want to know: is the Quran word of God?, then you have to read it from cover to cover with open heart. Because it talking to our souls. And Quran is impacting to several people in several ways. It is just a small scripture but it contains philosophy, science, morality, perfect laws, prophecies, history and many many things with out contradictions. It's main goal is to give exact idea about oneness of Allah and guiding people to the straight path to paradise.

There are some logics to understand why Quran is the word of Allah.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the holy Quran, then He would have praised Him in everywhere in the book. Since Allah gave the holy book, you see that all the praises are Allah’s. Only the true lord can praise Himself in such a way.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then He wouldn’t have been mentioned in such a helpless way. Yes, in many verses of Quran, you’ll see that Muhammad (PBUH) is presented as a mere creation of Allah. As for example, sura Duha is enough to understand this. Sura Qasas and many other suras reveal that all the power is in Allah’s hands.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then He would have called people to worship Him, not Allah.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then He couldn't have been able to mention a lot of things that were unknown to people till that time.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then He would have been engaged in thinking and writing the book almost all of His lifetime.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then the literature and the tone that were used in the verses of Quran would be similar to the authentic hadith of Him.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then He wouldn’t have been able to mention a lot of things regarding the future that are now being proven one by one with the advancement of modern technology.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, then His name were presented in the book most of the times than those of other prophets. In fact, His name is only mentioned in 4 times in the Quran, while Jesus mentioned in 25 times.

If Muhammad (PBUH) had written the Quran, He would reject the miracles of Jesus in order to deny the Christian faith. Or he would have admitted that Jesus was dead. At the same time, the Qur'an enumerates more miracles than the Bible. And It is said that Jesus did not die, but was raised to God. And Muhammad (pbuh) also teaches about the second coming of Jesus.

There are many more logical things if you use your mind.

What is Quran? Definition of the Term:

The word "Quran," a verbal noun, is equivalent in meaning to "qira'ah," as both come from the verb "qara'a" which means "to read."

That is, Quran literally means "a reading or reciting." However, the term "Quran" has been historically used specifically to refer to the book which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The term "Quran" is mentioned in a number of places throughout the book in reference to itself. For example:

"Verily, this Quran guides (humanity) to that which is most just." (Quran 17:9)

The name Quran is used to refer to both the Quran as a whole, as in the previously quoted verse; as well as to each verse or group of verses, as in the following verse:

"And if the Quran is recited, you should listen to it and be silent, that you may receive mercy."(Quran 7:204)

The Book has also been referred to by other names; for example, the Furqan (The Distinction):

"Blessed is He who revealed the Furqan to His slave in order that he may be a warner to all the worlds."(Quran 25:1)

and the Dhikr, (The Reminder):

"Verily, I revealed the Dhikr and verily I will preserve it."(Quran 15:9)

The Quran could be defined as Allah's words which were revealed in Arabic in a rhythmical form to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Its recitation is used in acts of worship and its smallest chapter (Surah) is of a miraculous nature.

The Prophet's divinely inspired statements which were recorded by his followers are generally referred to as hadiths. For example, the Prophet's companion (sahabi), 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, reported that he once said, "Verily, deeds are (judged) by their intentions."

However, in some of his statements, the Prophet (peace be upon him) attributed what he said to Allah; for example, another sahabi, Abu Hurayrah, reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah, Most High, says, 'I am as My slave thinks of Me and I am with him when he remembers me. So if he remembers Me to himself, I will remember him to Myself and if he remembers Me in a group, I will remember him in a better group.' "

In order to distinguish this type of hadith from the previous type, it is referred to as hadith qudsi (sacred hadith) and the former referred to as hadith nabawi (prophetic hadith).

The Quran, however, is not the same as hadith qudsi for a number of reasons. First, the Quran is from Allah both in its wording and in its meaning, while in the case of hadith qudsi, its meaning is from Allah but its wording was the Prophet's (peace be upon him). Second, Allah challenged the Arabs and mankind in general to produce even a chapter equivalent to one of the Quran's chapters, and their inability to do so proves its miraculous nature. This is not so in the case of hadith qudsi. Third, the recitation of the Quran is used in salah and is itself considered a form of worship. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, "Whoever reads a letter from the book of Allah, the Most High, will get a good deed (recorded for him), and each good deed is worth ten times its value. I am not only saying that Alif Laam Meem is a letter, but I am also saying that Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter, and Meem is a letter."

However, the recitation of hadith qudsi carries none of these properties.

Some Devine nature of Quran:

Given below is a list of some of the evidences in support of the divine nature of the Quran:

  • It, itself, declares that it is a divine Scripture
  • It, itself, declares that it shall remain unchanged up to the last day.
  • The path of right conduct that it prescribes is faultless.
  • It is practicable.
  • The history that it teaches is faultless and honest.
  • Its literature is incomparable.
  • The prophecies made in it can be seen to have come true.
  • The references in it to the varied phenomena of nature, as representing the sign of God, are free of controversies.
  • There is no reference, whatsoever, of an unscientific nature in it.
  • It is free of all contradictions.
  • None has been able to take up the challenge it poses when it calls forth all, and any, to produce an equivalent of at least one of it's chapters.
  • The person who was appointed with it in the world was himself of a truthful and selfless nature.

Quranic Prophecies About the Future:

These are numerous but we will see the following examples.

1 - The prophecy about the victory of the Romans:

The Almighty Allah, subhanahu wa ta`ala, says:

"The Romans have been defeated. In the lowest land. and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. Within few years. The decision of the matter, before and after [these events] is only Allah's [before the defeat of the Romans by the Persians, and after the defeat of the Persians by the Romans]..." (Quran 30:2-4)

Seven years later this prophecy became true, and the Romans defeated the Persians.

2 - Prophecy that both al Waleed ibn al Mugheerah and Abu Lahab would die as disbelievers

The Almighty Allah, subhanahu wa ta`ala, says about al Waleed:

"Leave Me alone [to deal] with whom I created lonely [without any wealth or children, i.e. Al Walid ibn Al Mughirah al Makhzumi]. And then granted him resources in abundance. And children to be by his side. And made life smooth and comfortable for him. After all that he desires that I should give more; Nay! Verily, he has been opposing Our Ayat [proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations]. I shall oblige him to [climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa`ud, or] face a severe torment! Verily, he thought and plotted. So let him be cursed: how he plotted! And once more let him be cursed: how he plotted! Then he thought. Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; then he turned back, and was proud. Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old. This is nothing but the word of a human being!" I will cast him into Hell-fire. And what will make you know [exactly] what Hell-fire is? It spares not [any sinner], nor does it leave [anything unburned]!" (Quran 74:11-18)

And about Abu Lahab, He, subhanahu wa ta`ala, says:

"Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab [an uncle of the Prophet] and perish he! His wealth and his children will not benefit him! He will be burnt in a Fire of blazing flames!" (Quran 111:1-3)

3 - His prophecy of coming back to Makkah which he left for Madinah. The Almighty Allah, `azza wa jall, says:

"Verily, He Who has given you [O Muhammad] the Qur'an [i.e. ordered you to act on its laws and to preach it to others] will surely bring you back to Ma`ad [place of return, either to Makkah or to Paradise after your death]..." (Quran 28:85)

And the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam returned to Makkah in the year of the conquest.

4 - The prophecy telling that the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, and the Muslims would enter Makkah in security:

"...Certainly, you shall enter Al Masjid al Haram, if Allah wills, secure, [some] having your heads shaved, and [some] having your head hair cut short, having no fear..." (Quran 48:27)

This prophecy became true and the Muslims conquered Makkah and entered al Masjid al Haram in complete security.

5 - The Prophecy about granting the Muslims succession and authority.

The Almighty Allah says:

"Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to [the present rulers] in the land, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion which He has chosen for them [i.e. Islam]. And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear [provided] they [believers] worship Me and do not associate anything [in worship] with Me." (Quran 24:55)

The Almighty Allah, subhanahu wa ta`ala, has fulfilled His promise to the Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam and his nation. He made them successors of great kings and powerful rulers, whose lands and properties were inherited by the Muslims.

Sceptics/critics may attempt to argue away some of these points individually. However taken collectively, these arguments provide powerful and compelling evidence that the Qur’an could not have been an invention of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Who then, is the author? The answer to the question of authorship lies in the Qur’an itself:

“Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him. He was taught by one mighty in Power.” (Quran 53: 2-5)
